O.M. Carter and D.D. Cooley began electrifying the mule-drawn streetcar system of Houston in 1890 and extended it to their planned community, Houston Heights. The streetcars ran up and down Heights Boulevard's 30 foot wide streets on eith side of the 60 foot wide esplanade, originally called "The Boulevard".

Unfortunately, the houses that replaced the older ones that burned or were torn down on Heights Boulevard seem to have been built in the sixties and seventies. More fortunately, the small trees shown here are all grand old behemoths now, many of them live oaks. There is also a reforestation project going on to add more trees.
