Texas Hill Country, Part III

Now here's the payoff.

This part of Texas is beautiful. There are hills, small mountains, wildflowers and cactus galore, and it feels like the west. Sometimes I forget that I live in Texas, but not today. Even though it's still not what I expected Texas to be like (no tumbleweeds), there is a lot of space and a lot of sky.

At this point, I drove off the alleged "road" and got close to some terrain that not many people have seen, I'll bet.

I have heard that you can find lots of Indian arrowheads in this part of the country. The last battle against the Indians in this area was fought and won in 1873.

One hundred and thirty years later, there are no major Indian reservations in Texas.
