Yes, today was Father's Day and all, but in Houston, this day is also known as "Juneteenth".

Juneteenth is the anniversary of emancipation in Texas. There are parades and parties here on Juneteeth. We did not attend any of these events, but I thought it would be appropriate to post a photo of a resident of one of the post-emancipation neighborhoods, the Third Ward, today.

The Third Ward is a very active arts neighborhood, home of the Project Row Houses.

Last fall I visited The Flower Man, local folk artist celebrity and all-around interesting guy, in his home in the Third Ward. Here he is showing me some of his collection.
