Hurricane Katrina
Obviously the big news down here is Hurricane Katrina. It is amazing watching the news coverage of a story that hits so close to home. TV gets so many facts wrong, and I expect those mistakes to be fixed, but they're not. So, yes, the Astrodome capacity was cut off for safety reasons, but the subsequent buses that arrived went to the other facilities in Reliant Park, right across the parking lot from the Dome, and to the convention center downtown. Houston now has hundreds of thousands of refugees. We recognize them by their pink bracelets. The hurricane has had a huge effect here, on my company, on my friends, and on the region. FYI, the original Times-Picayune article about the worst case scenario. Turns out it wasn't the worst case. More tomorrow. |
