My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy
Tonight Becky and I went to a campaign fundraiser at the Sons of Hermann Lodge in the Heights for Kinky Friedman, who is running for Texas governor as an independent in 2006. Kinky is a beloved Texas musician, mystery writer and pet lover. There were a couple of well known bands playing, and BBQ, and before too long the place was hot and possibly in violation of fire laws capacity-wise, but it was a very fun evening. Kinky has many one-liners, and used one to announce that he was going to sign autographs: "I'll sign anything except bad legislation". The woman at left took that to heart. Kinky looked at the two police officers who were accompanying him, and they just shrugged, so he signed. Becky and I, who were right behind her in line, just had him sign some posters and CDs. He seemed grateful. |
