Tuesday, August 29 Here is the Heights series....these are replicas of old postcards. Sunday, August 27 I'm too tired to write much today. So tired it hurts. I guess I'm not recovered yet. It feels like I have a sinus infection as a complication of last week's flu, plus plugged up ears. Bah. Saturday, August 26 We took a drive today, and happened upon D&D Ranch and Farm, which turned out to be a ranch 'superstore' - a very nicely designed, rather upscale ranch supply store. You could get your saddles, tack, fencing products, boots, silk cowboy shirts, and, yes, belt buckles as big as your head. It was strange, though, because while it had all this farm stuff for horses and cows, it also had very expensive jewelry and tractors. I was looking at one display rack that had pins and sleeves for displaying 'numbers', as well as lots of hairbows. I was trying to grasp what hunting license and hair accessories had to do with each other when I realized it was all for showhorses - competition numbers and mane decorations. I almost bought some fringed deerskin gloves, and looked at boots for Aidan and Nico, but didn't think any of us would get enough wear out of those things for the price. I wish little kids feet didn't grow, 'cause the boots sure were darlin'. In the end, I only got some plant food. This episode of Inside Ed scares me a little. But it's best to face your fears. He is sick, but can use his right arm a little today. He's not allowed to do anything with his right for two weeks. They're putting in the subflooring next door. It's really noisy. The garage is done except the Hardiplank. I'll try to take some pictures to show you. I have a new photo series after Inside Ed - old postcards of the Heights. Friday, August 25 Today's episode of Inside Ed shows no traumatic injury that I know of. I just like the effect. Do you think it's unusual that I have a directory in my graphics folder named 'X-rays'? Thursday, August 24 I spent a good part of today (much as Tuesday) taking Ed to doctor's offices to get his injured hand and shoulder looked at. Today he had an appointment at the Hand and Upper Extremity Clinic. Unfortunately, they weren't in his PPO plan, so after waiting for the appointment, we left. He then spent all day trying to get another appointment. He finally got one with a hand plastic surgeon (like Dr. Falcon). Like the last time he broke his hand, the doctor and his associate were more interested in his original hand surgery than in his current injuries. They are always very impressed with what was done in 1961, and one of the doctors today said she wasn't sure they could do that today. They took pictures. And so we have the theme of tonight's episode of Inside Ed (Ed wants me to point out that this is a short-running series). Nico might find this one interesting, BTW. Wednesday, August 23 I'm feeling tired, but better. Sorry I had to delay the premiere of Inside Ed, but I had to mow the lawn first. Tonight's episode: Shoulder with the scanner lid open. Tuesday, August 22 I couldn't post this yesterday, for some reason. Here goes for today. I'm feeling a little better, and did go to work. Tomorrow: Inside Ed. Monday, August 21 I'm home sick today. I've been sleeping mostly, so hopefully tomorrow I'll feel better. It feels like the flu. Erica left yesterday afternoon. Her mother moved while she was here. She had seen the house in its incomplete state before coming here for the summer, but not with carpeting, etc. She likes her new room (Ed talked with her this morning). So she gets two new houses in one summer. I thought she'd be so excited about the new house that she wouldn't cry when she left, but she did. Saturday, August 19 I have another cold. At least I guess it's a cold - I really just have felt feverish the last couple of days. John and crew are framing the garage for the house next door. As for the house proper, only the piers are done, none of the framing. Thursday, August 17 My wrist, elbow, shoulder, back and neck hurt, too. But it's from arm wrestling. I finally just installed Ed's scanner on my computer, since his is still not fixed. Here are some photos from last weekend, when Erica's half-sister Rachelle was visiting from Indianapolis. We'll post more soon. Maybe even some with me in them. Wednesday, August 16 Don't worry, I'm not dead. Just not sitting at my computer as much as usual. I registered a domain for Ed and Erica last week - at first it will just redirect to my domain. They are hard at work on, ahem, content. Anyway, it should at least look good. Check this space for the link in a couple of weeks. Erica has been hard at work playing snake on the cell phone. She's hoping for a scholarship. I was explaining the concept of an intervention to her earlier, as she complained her hands hurt. She thought I was kidding. Sunday, August 13 Both Linda and I have been fairly incommunicado lately, haven't we? In my case, it was because of work, then company. Erica's half-sister Rachelle flew in for the weekend to visit her. They hadn't seen each other for over a year and a half. Rachelle left California at 15 to live with her father in Ohio. She's 20 now. We had fun, but Erica was really upset when they began boarding Rachelle's flight. Hopefully she'll be able to visit again while Erica's here (she doesn't get along with their mother). Tuesday, August 8 Too tired to write. The Surrealist Compliment Generator tells me 'If you behave there will be cake for the miscreants we call your brothers. ' That's all for now. Sunday, August 6 Cool site of the day. Mostly Java. Ahhh, a quiet day at home alone while Ed and Erica golf. We didn't have the greatest luck yesterday hanging new curtains. The ones for our bedroom, which were just like the ones in the guestroom, didn't work out so well. We didn't realize those windows aren't as deep, so the curtains hang out at least an inch from the woodwork, leaving a large gap that lets a lot of light in in the morning. We'll come up with some sort of hack to fix it, I guess. And the test curtain we bought for the family room doesn't quite fit, either. But no refunds since they're custom made, so we'll have to come up with a fix ourselves for that one, too. The lights look good, though, and no one was electrocuted. Saturday, August 5 It's as if the chicken incident never happened. The Haz Mat trucks are gone, and the street is open. We'll see what happens to the business. Erica had her first real babysitting job last night, for Ed's friends Brian and Laura who have a four-year-old daughter and a German shepherd. She really enjoyed it, did a good job, and made $20, so I think she'll be in great demand when she visits. Meanwhile, Ed and I got to go out for a grownup dinner downtown. We found a great Irish pub after dinner, too. Today we're hanging our bedroom shades, and Ed is installing new lights in the stairway. Thursday, August 3 Chickens! Chickens everywhere! |
